The GTA 6 map is set in the fictional state of Leonida, home to the famous city of Vice City. Larger, denser and more interactive than ever, this new playground promises a diversity of environments unprecedented in the franchise, from crowded coastal beaches to the wild swamps of the interior.
🟢 [Official] What Rockstar Games has confirmed
The first trailer and Rockstar's announcements have established several geographical details:
- The return of Vice City: the HD version of the Miami parody sits at the heart of the map, with its neon lights, Ocean Drive (renamed), and wealthy coastal neighborhoods.
- The state of Leonida: the map extends beyond the city. The wider state includes the Grassrivers (inspired by the Everglades), rural areas and Kelly County.
- Unprecedented NPC density: the beaches (Vice Beach) and streets feature bustling crowds. Each NPC appears to have a unique level of detail and animations.
“Welcome to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond, in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet.”
— Official Rockstar Games announcement
🟡 [Analysis / Credible leaks] Map size and scale
The well-known community “Mapping Project,” which reconstructs the map using leaked coordinates and landmarks from the trailer, offers staggering estimates:
- A colossal area: the GTA 6 map is reportedly around 1.5 to 2 times larger than Los Santos and Blaine County (GTA V).
- Explorable interiors: the number of buildings players can enter (shops, hotels, pawnshops, nightclubs) is reportedly increasing dramatically, blurring the boundary between outdoors and indoors.
⚪ [Rumors / Theories] A map that evolves over time?
The GTA6 Central community is closely following the theory of a living, changeable world:
- “Project Americas”: early rumors mentioned trips to islands in South America or the Caribbean. Many hope for post-launch map expansions adding new islands (such as a counterpart to the Bahamas).
- Destruction and evolution: certain construction sites or buildings could be built or destroyed as you progress through the story, permanently changing the city's topography.
Frequently asked questions
Will the GTA 6 map be bigger than the GTA V map?
Yes. Based on cross-referenced leaks and trailer footage, the state of Leonida looks set to be significantly larger, and above all much denser and more detailed, than the GTA V map.
Will we be able to explore the swamps and interact with wildlife?
Absolutely. The Grassrivers are teeming with wildlife, including alligators, flamingos and other species, and can be explored using vehicles such as airboats.
