GTA 6 rated Mature 17+ by the ESRB: PEGI listing still absent

As of October 8, 2026, the official ESRB database rates GTA 6 “Mature 17+” in North America. The listing confirms several adult-content categories and the presence of in-game purchases. However, the official PEGI search still returns no listing for the game, so a final European rating cannot yet be presented as confirmed.

What the ESRB listing confirms

The official Grand Theft Auto VI listing covers the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions. It assigns the game an M — Mature 17+ rating, intended for players aged 17 and over in the United States and Canada.

The ESRB lists seven descriptors:

• blood and gore;
• intense violence;
• mature humor;
• nudity;
• strong language;
• strong sexual content;
• use of drugs and alcohol.

The page does not give a publication date. October 8 is therefore our verification date, not necessarily the exact day the rating went online.

The “In-Game Purchases” notice indicates that the product includes in-game purchases. It does not specify their nature, price or whether they appear in single-player or a possible online mode. It therefore confirms no particular commercial mechanic beyond their general presence.

Why PEGI 18 is not yet confirmed

For France and the rest of Europe, the relevant organization is PEGI, not the ESRB. However, the public PEGI search for Grand Theft Auto VI currently shows zero results.

This does not mean GTA 6 will avoid an adult rating. It simply means that, as of this date, no accessible European listing supports officially announcing PEGI 18 or repeating detailed descriptions attributed to an unavailable page.

What this means for players

The American rating confirms GTA 6's expected adult positioning, but does not by itself reveal new gameplay mechanics. The descriptors summarize content categories; they do not detail scenes, their frequency or their context.
