On October 7, 2026, Matthew Ball, Xbox’s head of strategy, corrected reports circulating about GTA 6 streaming. Microsoft says the game will neither stream exclusively through Xbox nor be playable on PC through the service. However, the exact scope of any potential Xbox Cloud Gaming support has yet to be announced.

Xbox corrects two claims
The story began with an article by The Verge, published on October 6. The outlet reported that Microsoft had secured streaming rights for GTA 6, initially describing the deal as exclusive and suggesting that players could use the cloud to play on PC.
A few hours later, Matthew Ball issued an official clarification. The Xbox executive confirms that GTA 6 is expected on Xbox on November 19, but rules out two interpretations: streaming will not be exclusive to Xbox, and the game will not be streamed to PC.
The Verge subsequently corrected its article. This clarification matters: PC players should not consider Xbox Cloud Gaming a confirmed way to play GTA 6 at launch.

What remains unknown
Matthew Ball’s statement sets limits, but does not explain the arrangement in detail. At this stage, Microsoft and Rockstar have not publicly specified:
- whether GTA 6 will actually be available on Xbox Cloud Gaming at launch;
- whether streaming will be limited to Xbox consoles or offered on other compatible devices;
- whether a subscription, a game purchase or additional hours will be required;
- how long any streaming agreement would remain in effect.
Xbox has indeed announced changes to its cloud service in November: Game Pass subscriptions will include a monthly allowance, and players will be able to buy hours to stream eligible games they own. However, that announcement does not mention GTA 6. Automatically connecting the two reports would therefore be premature.

What this means for players
For PC players, the message is clear: no GTA 6 access through Xbox Cloud Gaming has been announced for November 19. This is also not an announcement of a native PC version, which remains absent from Rockstar’s confirmed platforms.
For Xbox players, console streaming remains a possibility, but Microsoft or Rockstar still needs to provide details. An official listing explicitly mentioning cloud support will be needed before it can be presented as confirmed.
GTA 6 remains officially scheduled for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Our feature on Rockstar’s release date and timeline recaps the confirmed announcements, while the PS5, PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X guide compares platforms without attributing unannounced features to them.
